Global experience in mining
and quarrying

Managing Director of Harland Resources, Richard Wood, founded his Mining Company in 1983 after 11 years as Development Manager with Caterpillar earthmoving equipment dealer Levertons, now Finning.

Building on his early career dealing with major accounts in the mining, quarrying and the power generating businesses Richard’s experience encompasses projects in Morocco (Diatomite) and Mozambique (Coal) including the early stages of development of a 4,500 ha property, which would potentially yield 25 years of reserves, and was eventually taken over by Rio Tinto.

In the UK, we completed 40 surface mines, throughout the country, in Scotland, the North East, Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Following a change of direction to the prior extraction of old mineworkings from development sites, we have successfully completed 30 Incidental Coal Sites.

In our best year, with 110 employees, we moved 24m cubic metres of material and produced 750,000 tonnes of coal for the power station market

“Recent events in the UK, concerning fossil fuel burning and the intricacies of planning permissions, led me to diversify into the prior extraction of coal, before development, on industrial, housing and other sites”
