Flanshaw Way, Wakefield

This was a small site (5 Ha) being reprofiled, prior to being redeveloped as a housing site.

On this occasion, we only removed the coal and the on-site work was carried out by an experienced contractor, who had dealt with reclaiming clean coal in situ.

The coal seam was fairly shallow and unworked but had to be removed, as it was with the development horizon, in order to reduce the likelihood of spontaneous combustion.

Recovered Tonnage

The recovered tonnage was 2304 tonnes. We monitored and quality tested it, as part of our brief, and disposed from site.

We also dealt with obtaining approval from the council, for approval (NOT PERMISSION) of the prior extraction of the coal before development and the obtaining of the Incidental Licence from the Coal Authority – including the abandonment plans showing where the coal had been removed, for their records.
